UGLY OR COOL?!
We have a small roof top deck at our house. Under this wood is rubber. The bare rubber was always dirty and very uninviting. I started the project thinking I could find some used cedar (naturally rot resistant) from an old deck that someone removed. I searched craigslist and market place for free, used cedar. When it occasionally popped up, someone else would snatch it quick. It actually made me happy to know lots of people are re-using old cedar. I decided to go for some old, really ugly treated wood from a deck tear out. I think the nice guy that posted it was a little surprised I actually showed up and took it home. It was a lot of cutting but it only cost about $15 for screws. We now use the deck way more and I'm happy with it. It's been installed almost 2 years and it is holding up well.
